Moosehead Lake Region - Chamber of Commerce Website
The Moosehead Lake region is host to virtually every kind of outdoor adventure. This is a place where the trails end and communing with nature begins. Forty-mile long Moosehead Lake is the largest fresh water lake contained, completely, in one northeast state. The intricate shoreline of coves, beaches, bays, and islands provides a stunning setting for every activity, from the laid back to the extreme.

Katahdin Area - Chamber of Commerce Website
East of Greenville, the dramatic vistas of Mount Katahdin and Baxter State Park unfold. The Katahdin Region is a place they might have had in mind when they invented the word “breathtaking”. Baxter State Park is the jewel of Maine’s conservation efforts; a part of the state that will be forever wild, and always inspiring. When your done in the park, challenge the whitewater in one of many rafts that traverse the West Branch of the Penobscot River and then stay in one of the area’s many rustic lodges. Or wait until the snow falls and cruise the frozen terrain on the hundreds of miles of groomed trails.

Lincoln Lakes Region - Chamber of Commerce Website
To the south, the Lincoln Lakes Region and the Penobscot River are a sportsman’s and boater’s paradise. Wildlife is everywhere to be found in a landscape where small, welcoming communities merge with unspoiled nature. Visitors to the area enjoy public access to Mattanawcook Lake right in downtown Lincoln.

Greater Bangor Region - Convention & Visitors Bureau Website

Experience Bangor’s fine restaurants, outstanding artistic fare and easy hospitality with a wide range of accommodation for every budget and preference. Ideally located to arrive by air, Bangor is easy to get to, and is the perfect place to start your vacation adventure in The Maine Highlands. Located just off I-95, Bangor is a trouble-free drive from anywhere in the northeast. Bangor International Airport offers frequent and affordable flights to the region with major carrier service from many national hubs. On-site car rental and accommodation services get you out and on your way with ease.

The history of what we call The Maine Highlands is older than the state itself. For centuries, the Penobscot tribes hunted and fished this land in harmony with the seasons, and developed a unique style in crafts and building that endures to this day. You can learn more about these traditions by visiting the the Penobscot Nation Museum on Indian Island.

The Maine Highlands is rich in history, arts, culture and so many of life's simpler and finer pleasures. To get a sense of our communities, come enjoy the various historical societies and museums or explore local fairs. Here you can set your own pace and delight in the singular beauty of it all.
